Workshops and meetings are key activities in meeting the objectives of EUR-OCEANS. The level of support for 2008 is being determined. In 2007 150,000 € will be available to organize workshops relevant to meeting the scientific and networking objectives. In addition to this sum 250,000 € are made available to member institutions for participation in EUR-OCEANS sponsored or endorsed workshops and meetings in 2007.

The full rules for allocation and use of workshop and meeting funds can be found here. Sample application forms in .doc format are located here.

A “Meeting” is defined as an internal meeting of a Task Team of a Work Package or a System for organizing the activities of that Work Package or System.

Large events organised by international societies or unions (e.g. EGU, ASLO, AGU) cannot be endorsed by EUR-OCEANS as they cannot be considered as serving the specific integration objectives of the Network. However it is possible to organise short EUR-OCEANS meetings during, before or after these events, taking advantage of the presence of several PIs.

5000 € is available each year for each Work Package and System. Funds for these meetings are spent as decided by the respective WP or System Leaders and cover travel expenses of the members of the Task Team.

Application for funds for organisation of workshops

A “Workshop” is defined as a workshop, conference or event that is organized or co-organized by one or more EUR-OCEANS Principal Investigators (PI) or endorsed by EUR-OCEANS on topics relevant to one or more WPs and/or Systems.

Funds to support the organisation of a workshop will be allocated to successful organisers after an internal competition among proposals by WP/System leaders. PIs or associated scientists wishing to organize a workshop must first contact the relevant WP or System Leader, who shall submit a proposal the Executive Committee, using the sample application forms (Word format) which can be downloaded from here or “ Request form for the organization of a workshop” . Proposals are evaluated by the Network’s Steering Committee and the final approval is given by the Executive Committee.

Funds for participation in workshops

Workshops funds are allocated to each Member Organization (MO) and can be used to allow PI and colleagues to attend workshops organized in whole or in part or endorsed by EUR-OCEANS.

Application for endorsement of non-EUR-OCEANS meeting or workshop

Funds may be available for PI and colleagues to attend no EUR-OCEANS meetings or workshop if they are endorsed by EUR-OCEANS. Requests for endorsement should be submitted by WP or System leader to which the workshop or meeting is considered relevant by completion of the “ Request form for the endorsement of an event by EUR-OCEANS” or by using the sample forms (Word format) located here.
